Webpage Shortcuts

Rocketdock is a very handy application for making any Windows computer a Mac wannabe! For me, I hate opening my Firefox, clicking bookmarks, and selecting Gmail. Or, even typing the address in! Arrggghhh! I think it all goes back to my 8th grade touch typing teacher who made us type with our hands dangling dangerously over razor blades duct-taped to the keyboard wrist rest, just to teach us to keep our wrists elevated. "IT'S ERGONOMIC" he'd yell over and over. JERK! But that's besides the point. So in the name ERGONOMICS, here's a little something for the Rocketdock.

You can easily create you're own logo'd shortcuts on the Rocketdock. For example, I use shortcuts to Gmail, Google Reader, Google Calendar, and Blogger. Nice thing about this is that I can be on any page, and by a click of the icon from the Rocketdock it will open up a new tab (permitting you have Firefox) and I can do what I need to do. Also, you can create custom icons as well as make a link to any website you use frequently. It's like your own personal gOS. But not.

Step 1:

Obviously you have to have Rocketdock downloaded, installed, and working for this to be of any benefit to you at this point. Also, you need to know the URLs of the websites you'll link to. So, needless to say, I'm leaving those steps out.

So first, right-click your Rocketdock and add a new Blank Icon.

Step 2:

Next go to the Icon Settings...

Step 3:

Now, specify the settings you want. For example, I made one for Google Calendar.

Icon: [wait a second for the answer to this one]
Name: Google Calendar
Target: http://calendar.google.com

And then click OK.

And VIOLA, a nice custom link from your Rocketdock.

This is especially nice if you're like me and hate to clutter up your desktop with really....anything! It gives your PC a nice sleek and professional look.

Now you may be wondering how can you get your hands on those Google Icons? Well, you could use Google Images and pour through thousands of possibilites and even Photoshop a few of them to get them just right. Or, you can download them here save yourself a little hassle. We've included in this .zip file basic icons for Google Mail, Google Reader, Google Calendar, Google Maps, Google Docs, Google News, Blogger and even Lifehacker.

Just unzip and enjoy. Er, unzip and have some fun. Er, just unzip the files and in your icon settings in Rocketdock select the icon you want in the newly unzipped folder you just created...with your new icons!

Dirty minded freaks, all of you! "Unzip and have some fun," so innocent and playful, yet you turn it into debauchery! I am so ashamed.
